🔎 The Code Review Pyramid
When it comes to code reviews, it’s a common phenomenon that there is much focus and long-winded discussions around mundane aspects like code formatting and style, whereas important aspects (does the code change do what it is supposed to do, is it performant, is it backward-compatible for existing clients, and many others) tend to get less attention.
To raise awareness for the issue and provide some guidance on aspects to focus on, I shared a small visual on Twitter the other day, which I called the "Code Review Pyramid". Its intention is to help put focus on those parts which matter the most during a code review (in my opinion, anyway), and also on which parts could and should be automated.
🦄 How to scale a unicorn-building engineering team (and stay sane)
The most common question I get asked by people familiar with my recent journey is: how the hell did you go from a team of 1 (Hi Dima!) to a 25-person engineering group (hey everybody else!) in under a year and a half?
This is the story behind one of Melio’s engineering groups, and how we’re building one of the most world-class teams and changing the conversation about payments.
In this post, I’ll take a deep dive into our new team-scaling strategy step-by-step, from planning to execution.
